Private Setúbal Wine Country Walk & Cellar Tour

Vines & Wine in the Heart of the Setúbal Peninsula
From Lisbon/Cascais | Upon Request | 1 Day | Private Wine & Hiking Tour

A circular walk threads through one of the Setúbal Peninsula’s most quietly remarkable wine-growing landscapes — between vineyard and cork oak forest, where the vines shift colour with every season and the only sounds are birdsong and the crunch of trail underfoot. This one-day private tour combines a wine tourism walking route with guided cellar visits and tastings at two distinct estates that have shaped this region’s wine identity, with lunch taken as a picnic among the vines at one of the estates.

Tour Highlights

🥾 Local Vineyard Walk

Type: Circular | Difficulty: Easy–Moderate | Duration: Approx. 3–4 hours

The walk follows a circular route through working vineyards and cork oak forest on a stretch of the Setúbal Peninsula that has been shaped by vine cultivation for centuries. The silence here is particular: not empty, but full. Birdlife is abundant, and you’re likely to spot blue rock thrushes, jays, chaffinches, goldfinches, greenfinches, and great tits among the vines and scrub.

The route connects the wine estates visited during the day, making the walk and the tastings a single continuous experience rather than separate activities.

Not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations. Sturdy walking footwear recommended.

☀️ Summer visits (July–August): The hiking trail is not recommended in the summer months due to heat and limited shade. During this period, additional winery visits replace the trail, and the day is structured around the wine experiences, cellar tours, and tastings. All other elements remain the same.

🍷 Winery Visit & Enologist-Led Tasting

One of the area’s established estates opens for a guided visit that covers its ampelographic collection — a living library of grape varieties — followed by a cellar tour and a tasting led by the estate’s enologist. The tasting includes wines selected personally by the winemaker alongside a Moscatel de Setúbal, one of the region’s most distinctive expressions, served with a board of local cheeses, charcuterie, wine preserve, and traditional biscuits.

Minimum 2 guests.

🧺 Lunch — Vineyard Picnic

Lunch is taken among the vines at a family wine estate with roots in this landscape going back to the 1950s — now in its third generation and one of the more respected producers in the region. A basket of local cheeses, charcuterie, toast, preserves, and a bottle of their wine is delivered to the vines.

Not suitable for vegans or strict vegetarians.

🍷 Family Estate & Traditional Cellar Visit

For groups of 4 or more.

A smaller family-run estate — one of the last in the region built with the original cement tank construction of the 1970s, partially restored to produce red wines using the traditional Algerian-style autovinification process with precise temperature control. The result is a cellar with genuine character and wines that reflect the landscape directly. Guided visits include a tour of the production process from harvest to bottling, with a tasting of three wines accompanied by bread, cheese, and charcuterie.
