Almond Trees in Blossom & Ancient Art – Douro Valley

Friday, Feb 14th – Sunday, Feb 16th –  Travel to the Douro region and explore an area where 2 world heritage sites meet. Hike along trails that allow you to witness the spectacle of Almond trees in bloom through hills and valleys that are covered in a blanket of white and pink flowers.

Saturday Feb 15th – Will start at 10:00 am with a circular hike starting from a small village that will surprise you with it’s numerous archaeological sites and it’s excellent examples of restoration and preservation. The route takes us along cobbled and rural paths among numerous almond trees in bloom and visits one of the most interesting and well preserved archaeological remains in Portugal. Upon our return to the village you can visit an 18th century manor house museum.

Distance/Duration: 16.5km/5-6hrs – max elevation 645m

Moderate Level 3 – Previous hiking experience is required for this walk and participants Must be in Good Physical Shape. The route may involve steep slopes and more difficult terrain in some areas.

Sunday, Feb 16th – Will do a linear route starting from a stone village with a shale castle. This trail goes through a valley that is considered one of the largest open air concentration of upper paleolithic rock art in the world. Trails along walled paths between olive groves and vineyards with panoramic views over the valley. Passing through pasture areas, old agricultural areas and extenisive vineyards. At end of the walk will visit a musuem dedicated to rock art and have lunch in a restaurant with scenic views.

Distance/Duration: 12.5km/4hrs – max elevation 430m

Must Take – 1.5L Water, Hat, Sunscreen, Lunch, Shoes with good grip for hiking, Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.

Event will only take place if it receives a Minimum of 4 Participants

Maximum Number of Participants: 10 (transportation available for a maximum of 6ppl in a private minivan)
