Saturday, March 8th– Come on a walk among vultures flying by in the spectacular natural monument of Portas de Ródão. Home to the largest colony of griffin vultures, and to several strategically placed military monuments that acted as a barrier to invading armies along with a castle from the 12th century. The route follows zigzag paths that allow you to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Tagus river and quartzite ridges. Remains of goldmining from the Roman era can also be seen. After the hike we will take a 1hr boat trip through the Portas do Ródão a geological formation resembling 2 doors.
Distance/Duration: 10km – 3.5-4hrs – max elevation 368m
Moderate Level 2.5 – Accessible to those with hiking experience are in good physical health and who are used to walking. On the route we may encounter some steeper differences in level and areas where the ground may be more difficult and uneven.
Must Take – 1.5L Water, Hat, Sunscreen, Lunch, Shoes with good grip for hiking, Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.
