Saturday, Jan 18th – Travel to a small town in the region of Leiria that is known for it’s glass making industry. On this day the 18th of January an historical event took place here in which we will experience the local celebrations. Afterwards, we will go on a circular hike of 10km through a mixture of urban and rural environments. Passing through a pine forest in which the wood was used to build the boats that were used in the discoveries. The route also visits a scenic picnic park that is home to several families of red squirrels and was a popular spot where the glass workers would spend the weekends having picnics. At the end of the walk we will have the opportunity to visit a glass museum, some glass blowing studios, and try the local the gastronomy. Come enjoy a walk that characterizes the history and beauty of this location.
Distance/Duration: 10km/2.5-3.5hrs
Moderate Level 2 – Accessible to all those who are in good physical health and are used to walking. On the route we may encounter some steeper differences in level and areas where the ground may be more difficult and uneven.
Must Take – 1.5L Water, Hat, Sunscreen, Lunch, Shoes with good grip for hiking, Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.
