Saturday, Dec 28st – The last hike of the year will explore a scenic rural area outside of Torres Vedras. This walk offers panoramic views of the region while walking through green areas and vineyards. One of the highlights of the route is an old quinta that is considered to be the most beautiful in the region. The property has a set of houses and gardens that represents a significant example of the theatrical effects pursued by Baroque civil architecture, which was inspired by erudite models of the Italian Renaissance. Passing through agricultural areas the route then climbs up to a mid 17th century chapel located on a cliff above the town over looking the Sizandro river where we can take in magnificent views of the surrounding area. Afterwards our descent begins back to the village and our starting point. Before returning to Lisbon we will visit the castle of Torres Vedras and a cultural space with an interesting history.
